Homebrew Monsters (BX/OSE)

These first three monsters are ones I made for /osrg/.

Blight Toad
Armor Class: 14
Hit Dice: 3+1**
Attacks: 1×tongue (1-8 + grab) or bite (2-12 + disease)

No. Appearing: 1 – 3 (2 – 8)

Alignment: Neutral
XP Value: 100
Treasure Type: D

  • Grabbing Tongue: When hit with its tongue the victim is grabbed and will be bitten automatically on the next round.
  • Disease: Creatures bit by the blight toad must save vs. poison or contract swamp blight. Swamp blight has the same effects of the cause disease spell.
Omnivorous and amphibious, 3' diameter toads. Thier bodies are covered in pustules, buboes, and throbbing warts. They live in swamps and subsist mostly on small game and fish but will attempt to eat anything not wrapped in heavy armor. Blight toads collect a lot of treasure in their homes but only have a 5% chance of being found in their lair.

Gravity Beetle
Armor Class: 16
Hit Dice: 4**
Attacks: 1×horn (2-7) or spell-like
To Hit: +3
Movement: 120' (40')
Saving Throws: as Fighter 4
No. Appearing: 2 – 5 (2 – 7)
Morale: 8
Alignment: Neutral
XP Value: 175
Treasure Type: U

  • Attack Pattern: The gravibeetle has a 20% chance of using its gravity waves ability instead of attacking.
  • Gravity Aura: Each creature that is not a gravity beetle within 30' of the gravity beetle cannot fly and has its movement cut in half.
  • Gravity Waves: Each creature within 30' of the gravity beetle takes 3-12 damage, a save vs. wands is allowed for half damage.
Carnivorous, 4'long beetles. Their glossy black shells pulse with gravitaitonal distortions. They are just smart enough to have a favorite food, and that favorite food is halflings.

Crag Giant
Armor Class: 14
Hit Dice: 10**
Attacks: 1×weapon (3-18) and 1
×thrown rock (3-18) or trample (6-36)
To Hit: +8
Movement: 90' (30')
Saving Throws: as Dwarf 10
No. Appearing: 1-4 (2-8)
Morale: 9
Alignment: Chaotic
XP Value: 2,500
Treasure Type: E + 5,000 GP

  • Weapons: Crag Giants wield oversized clubs or spears.
  • Berserker: Crag Giants enter into a rampage on the second round of combat. While berserking crag giants benefit from a +2 bonus to-hit.
  • Trample: Crag Giants can move through areas occupied by man-sized or smaller creatures. Creatures whose area it passes through must save vs breath or take 3-36 damage.
Crag Giants stand upwards to 30' tall, and prefer to live in the crags of high northern mountains unspoiled by smaller races (including other giants). Due to their great size they tend to be quite confident.
