The Sword of Evil's Bane

PREFACE: I do not like 5E. I will not run it, and I only enjoy playing it with the right groups. However, 5E is braindead simple to create for, as it's a ruined orgasm of a game sitting somewhere between 3E, 4E, and the intent behind Basic D&D. However, I do love The Legend of Zelda, and I have seen multiple attempts to adapt it to a 5E system and Every. Single. One. shits the bed on the master sword so here you go.

THE SWORD OF EVIL'S BANE
Legendary Weapon (longsword), requires attunement

The sword of evil's bane, which is also known by many other names including the sword of resurrection and the master sword, is a holy avenger blessed by the White Goddess, a lesser god created by the three Golden Goddesses to watch over creation. The master sword is a wide-bladed bastard sword, larger than an arming sword but not so long that it requires two hands to use at all times. A strong arm with proper training can wield it in one hand. It has no fuller, but does bear a ricasso. The blade has the symbol of the triforce carved into it base. The hilt is between blue and purple in color, and is far too large to be practical on a normal weapon. The faces of its guard bear gold diamond-shaped gemstones.

The master sword cannot be destroyed by any known means, but can be rendered dormant through lack of use and the people of the land forgetting the goddess of light. When this happens the weapon becomes susceptible to corrosion and pitting. However, it will quickly restore itself if awoken by a hero it deems worthy to wield it.

The goddess of light created a faerie spirit to dwell within the weapon, to act as it's arbiter. The spirit sleeps within the blade, but retains just enough consciousness to uphold her duty. As such, the weapon is ardent on who is allowed to use it.

The master sword is a longsword +1. However, when attuned to a warrior blessed by the goddess of light or the three golden goddesses, or one who has passed the trails set by the six sages, it becomes a holy avenger, and it may be invoked once per round to throw a bolt of holy light. This ranged attack acts as if it were a thrown fiend and undead slayer dagger.

One who is good at heart, but lacks an honorable cause may use the sword as a longsword +1, as can a neutral warrior. However, the weapon does nothing to offset how unwieldy it's hilt is and character suffers a -2 penalty to-hit and to damage rolls. If the warrior earns the goddess's blessing, the sword will accept them as its wielder and work to balance itself in hand.

An evil person who attempts to lift the blade is struck for 3d8 radiant damage, and finds the blade far too heavy to wield.

The dormant spirit of the weapon likely cannot be awakened, or at least not to the same degree it was when Hylia first forged the blade. However, if by some holy miracle she is awakened, her name is Fi and the sword becomes a sentient magic weapon.

Fi has an Intelligence of 19, Wisdom of 13, and a Charisma of 8. She is well versed in all forms of ancient knowledge, and knows most ancient dialects of the common languages. She can speak, but will use her telepathy 120' to communicate if language is a barrier. Fi has normal vision out to 120', as well as hearing and a sense of smell. She prefers to interact with the weapon's wielder via a hard light projection of a faerie queen.

Fi's special purpose is to be the arbiter of who is worthy to wield the sword of evil's bane. She currently does this only in the methods described above, but if awakened she can wield herself in battle as a dancing sword to fend off evil.
