Heated Gamer Moment about Old School D&D

I'm getting really fed up with OSR dungeon masters who fetishize the myth of early D&D without actually reading anything Gary, Dave, Rob, etc. wrote about the game in the era.

Characters matter.

Stories matter.

D&D wasn't just a dungeon crawl board game.

If you're lucky you're just ill informed, but most of you are just really bad dungeon masters looking for an excuse to treat old school D&D like Hero Quest, so you don't actually have to try to build a world and fill it with interesting characters.

No, the world isn't just a hex map with encounter locations. It also has towns, and castles, and temples. And those towns, and castles, and temples have people in them. Those people have problems and stories, and there is legitimate Old School D&D fun to be told by interacting with them.

If your OSR doesn't have any room for hunting down the bastard that murdered Aleena, then it's not OSR.
